Sprint specialist Maximilian Walscheid from Team Cofidis relies on the SK Pininfarina from De Rosa. TOUR met the 29-year-old one day before the Grand Depart in Copenhagen.
Nine German riders will be competing in the 109th edition of the Tour de France. TOUR introduces them and takes a look at their racing bikes.
Alexander Krieger - Alpecin-Deceuninck (Canyon)
After Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España (both 2020), the German Alexander Krieger is celebrating his debut at the Tour de France this year. Born in Stuttgart, he is with Alpecin-Deceuninck primarily intended as a starter for sprint specialist Jasper Philipsen.

The German team Bora-hansgrohe will have the most riders from Germany at the Tour de France 2022. In addition to Nils Politt and Lennard Kämna, both freshly decorated with the German championship title, Maximilian Schachmann has cured his corona illness in time and made it into the eight-man squad of the Raubling racing team.

The German trio's main workhorse at the Tour de France is the S-Works Tarmac SL7 from Specialized. The Specialized Roubaix is likely to be used on stage five, which leads over the notorious cobblestones of northern France.

Maximilian Walscheid, Simon Geschke - Cofidis (De Rosa)
In the French team Cofidis Simon Geschke has had German support from Maximilian Walscheid since this season - both are competing for Cofidis in the Tour de France. The 1.99 metre tall sprint giant Walscheid only returned to the peloton in May after a serious crash.

Walscheid relies almost exclusively on the aero-optimised SK Pininfarina racing bike from De Rosa. "With my height and weight, the 500 grams less don't make sense," he says of the lightweight Merak model, which is designed to get his team-mates over the mountains.

If there was an award for the most eye-catching racing bike at the Tour de France, it would go to EF Education Easypost will be about the German professional Jonas Rutsch.

For the second time in a row, Georg Zimmermann is part of the Tour de France squad of Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert.

The German is riding a brand new racing bike. Two days before the Grand Depart in Copenhagen, Scott presented the new Foil RC.
