Canyon is apparently about to present a new Ultimate. After all, the lightweight model from the Koblenz-based company was once again at the first stages of the Team Movistar after the Spanish team had already made it through the mountain stages of the Criterium du Dauphine had used.
Another indication that it won't be long before the official launch of the new Ultimate: Canyon registered the racing bike with the UCI a few weeks ago in the so-called homologation list. Curious: Although Alpecin-Deceuninck and Arkea-Samsic sponsored by Canyon, both teams kept the Ultimate under wraps for the Tour de France opener in Denmark.
As with the update of the Marathon model Endurace the new Ultimate road bike also looks pretty similar to its predecessor and the changes are comparatively minor. The down tube, head tube and fork look slimmer, while the seat tube is slightly thicker.
The seat post and handlebar/stem unit have been aero-optimised, and the Koblenz-based company now also relies on system integration for its lightweight model. In addition, the frame and fork now leave room for wider tyres; the current Ultimate is limited to 30 millimetres.
The new Cervélo S5 was already spotted at the Tour of Valencia in February - but the Canadians have still not officially unveiled the aero bike. This prevents the team Jumbo-Visma The two superstars Primož Roglič (Slovenia) and Wout van Aert (Belgium), of course, did not want to use the competition bike at the Tour de France.
The differences to the current modelwhich is already one of the fastest racing bikes in the world, are comparatively small. The most striking feature is the flatter and therefore more aerodynamic head tube. The stem of the aero cockpit is still split in two. The workhorse of Belgian jumbo pro Tiesj Benoot (see picture gallery) is equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 2x12 and rolls on 60 millimetre high Shimano wheels with Vittoria Corsa tyres.
For more than a year, the professionals from Intermarche-Wanty Gobert on an unreleased Cube road bike - including at the 109th Tour de France. Team mechanics refer to the model as Litening Air - and the bike is light. The slim frame in size 54 is said to weigh less than 800 grams, as an Intermarche mechanic in Copenhagen told TOUR.
Compared to the C:68X - the aero model is the main workhorse at Intermarche - the tubes of the Air are less aerodynamically shaped. This is particularly evident on the seat tube, which leaves significantly more space towards the rear tyre. The Upper Palatinate company is also following the current trend and increasing the maximum tyre clearance. There should be room for 32 millimetre wide tyres without any problems.
It didn't take long for the new Giant Propel to take its first stage win at the Tour de France. On the third stage from Vejle to Sonderborg, Dylan Groenewegen (Netherlands) from Team BikeExchange-Jayco in the sprint on the as yet unreleased aero car.
But aero-bolide is actually the wrong term, as the Propel is now characterised by the typical features of a race all-rounder. The frame design is less aerodynamic, which should significantly reduce the overall weight. For the cockpit, the Taiwanese have apparently dispensed with a fully integrated version and clamped the flat aero handlebars into the stem, under which the cables run into the head tube. The distinctive seat dome remains unchanged.
Around the rainy individual time trial in Copenhagen, the team presented B&B Hotels-KTM the new Revelator Alto in front of the team bus at the start of the Tour de France. The lightweight model from the Austrians, which also rolled through the south of France at the Dauphine, is significantly more aerodynamic than its predecessor. In particular, the slim front end with clamped aero handlebars and integrated cables should make the racing bike faster.
In addition, shortly before the Grand Départ, Colnago presented the Prototipo. However, the race all-rounder is initially only available at UAE Team Emirates around Tour de France favourite Tadej Pogačar and is not yet produced by the Italians.
The new Aero models from Scott and Trek have already been officially unveiled. The Foil RC is on the DSM team around John Degenkolb, which Madone SLR will be ridden by Trek-Segafredo around the Danish crowd favourite Mads Pedersen.
