As part of the big TOUR reader survey, we nominated five bikes each in the marathon, competition and gravel categories, which in our opinion, based on Test resultsThe results, riding impressions and laboratory measurements show that they have what it takes to be the road bike of the year. As part of the big TOUR reader survey, all road cyclists were able to vote on which models are their absolute favourite bikes, resulting in the following ranking in the three categories of marathon, competition and gravel:
The first version of the bike, launched in 2004, changed the market more than any model before it. The main difference between the Roubaix and other marathon bikes is the FutureShock suspensionwhich decouples the handlebars from the frame. It is not only a relief for the hands, arms, shoulders, neck and back; it also makes it much easier to control the bike on rough surfaces.
The fact that the new Roubaix looks more modern and sportier than its predecessor is mainly due to the fine-tuning of the frame in the wind tunnel. By road bike standards, it offers an unusually upright riding position. The Roubaix Pro with SRAM Force eTap weighs 8.0 kilograms and costs just under 7,000 euros (pictured is the S-Works Roubaix with SRAM Red eTap, 7.3 kilos, 11,199 euros). We have a cheaper version of the Specialized Roubaix tested in TOUR 4/2020.

As the brand of the Tour de France winners, Pinarello proves year after year that they know better than almost any other competitor how to build racing bikes that are successful at the highest level. The outstanding quality of the Dogma F12 lies in its aerodynamics. The basic shape of the frame was developed for its predecessor, the Dogma F8, and has been modified in small steps ever since.
This puts the new Dogma in a very good position in the wind tunnel, but it is not an aero specialist, but an all-purpose weapon that is convincing on any terrain. What also characterises the Dogma F12: It constantly pushes its rider to go that little bit faster. Not many road bikes offer this radically sporty riding experience. With SRAM Red eTap, it weighs 7.7 kilograms and costs around 12,400 euros.

The Open WI.DE The Open straddles the gap between road bike and mountain bike like no other bike at the moment. The Open answers the exciting question of how a road bike with such thick tyres rides with confidence: the wide knobbly tyres offer unprecedented grip for off-road road bikes, and trails and soft ground can also be ridden at a brisk pace. The handling is manoeuvrable and close to that of a cross bike. On firm ground, the chunky Schwalbe tubeless tyres run surprisingly fast, so you still feel like you're on a road bike. The range of use can be extended almost indefinitely towards the road. The Wi.De is only available as a frame set, which costs 3,200 euros. The Test bike from TOUR 11/2019 with SRAM drivetrain (Force eTap AXS 1 x 12) weighed 8.7 kilograms.
