The 11th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025 presents itself as a demanding stage that poses major challenges for the riders. After the start in Viareggio, the route is initially relatively flat until Castelnuovo Garfagnana. From this point, the character of the stage changes fundamentally. The riders have to be prepared for a series of tough climbs and technically demanding descents. The first major climb leads to San Pellegrino in Alpe, where gradients of up to 20 per cent await the peloton.
Organiser RCS speaks of the "toughest section of the entire Giro 2025". The climb could already provide the first preliminary decisions in the overall classification. A descent is followed by further climbs at Toano and finally to Pietra di Bismantova. The last three kilometres to the finish in Castelnovo ne' Monti are once again treacherous: a ramp is followed by a short descent into the town centre with some challenging bends. The last kilometre is completely uphill and ends with a 100-metre-long finishing straight.
The 11th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025 promises to be an exciting race that will bring the climbing specialists and overall classification riders to the fore. With 3850 metres of climbing over 186 kilometres, the stage is a real challenge for the peloton. The climb to San Pellegrino in Alpe with gradients of up to 20 per cent could be the decisive point of the stage. This is where the favourites for overall victory will have to show their strength. The technically demanding descents also require maximum concentration and riding skills. The final phase of the stage with the climb to Pietra di Bismantova offers a final opportunity for attacks. However, it is also possible that a breakaway group with strong climbers will decide the victory among themselves.
