The 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025 takes the riders from Treviso to Nova Gorica over a distance of 195 kilometres. The route initially runs flat through the Venetian lowlands. After Cordovado and the crossing of the Tagliamento River, the peloton reaches Friuli. At kilometre 140, the race crosses the border into Slovenia for the first time. A few short climbs await here in the Collio region before the riders reach Gorizia and turn into the final 14-kilometre circuit. After the first finish in Nova Gorica (Slovenia), the riders complete a full lap. The roads are mostly straight, but vary in width and have the usual traffic features in the towns.
After the short climb to the Saver, the last few kilometres flatten out. The finale is characterised by numerous bends and roundabouts. The home straight stretches over 900 metres on an 8-metre-wide asphalt strip. This technically demanding final section requires the sprinters and their riders to be extremely attentive and have precise timing. The teams must skilfully manoeuvre their formations through the obstacles in order to put their sprinters in an optimal starting position for the final sprint.
The profile of the 14th stage favours the sprinters. After the strenuous, undulating stages of the previous days, this rather flat stage offers a welcome opportunity for the fast men to put themselves back in the limelight. The sprinters' teams will probably control the race and try to neutralise breakaway attempts early on. The short climbs in the Collio region could cause some unrest in the peloton, but are unlikely to be enough to hold off the sprinters. The technically demanding circuit at the end requires precise coordination from the teams. Position battles are pre-programmed here, as every sprinter will try to secure an optimal starting position for the final sprint. The detour from Italy to Slovenia gives the stage a special flavour. For the Slovenian riders in the peloton, this stage should provide additional motivation to present themselves in front of their home crowd. All in all, a fast and exciting finale is to be expected. The sprint teams will do everything they can to put their captains in a good position for the final sprint. Outsiders have a chance of breaking away and may try to break away in the final kilometres. However, given the flat profile and the strength of the sprinters' trains, a bunch sprint is the most likely scenario for the stage finish.
