The second stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025 takes the riders through the streets of the Albanian capital Tirana. After the opening stage in Durrës the day before, a challenging individual time trial is now on the programme. The 13.7-kilometre route runs entirely within the city limits of Tirana and offers spectators the opportunity to see the top stars of the peloton up close. The individual time trial runs along wide boulevards that are connected by tight bends. The short climb to Sauk in the centre of the route is the only significant elevation of the day. This section is classified as a fourth category mountain classification and also marks the location of the intermediate time. The last two kilometres correspond exactly to the finale of the first stage, which already gives the riders a certain familiarity with the route. The urban character of the course places high demands on the riders' skills. Tight bends and changing road surfaces require maximum concentration. The athletes also have to reckon with changing wind conditions between the urban canyons.

The elevation profile of the second stage is predominantly flat with only one slight rise in the middle section. This characteristic favours the time trial specialists, who can play to their strengths here. The short climb to Sauk is unlikely to pose a major challenge for most of the pros, but could certainly result in time differences. The decisive factor will be how the riders organise their strength over the entire distance. The technically demanding route with numerous changes of direction also requires precise cornering and good acceleration skills. For the overall classification riders, it is important not to lose too much time to the specialists. Every second can be decisive at the end of the three-week stage race. At the same time, however, there is also the chance to gain an advantage over the weaker time trialists among the classification rivals. The teams will analyse the route in detail beforehand and work out the optimum tactics for their captains.
