The stage after the first rest day and the return to Italy from Albania is flat with the exception of the short climb in Putignano (4th category). The route connects larger towns via wide, predominantly straight roads, which should ensure a high pace in the peloton. A special feature awaits the riders in Lecce: shortly after the first passage through the finish area, they enter a circuit. They will complete almost the entire 12 kilometre route before reaching the finish and riding a complete lap. The last three kilometres are flat, with only one significant bend about 1200 metres before the finish. Wide roads lead to the final kilometre, which ends in a 300 metre long and 8 metre wide finishing straight.
The elevation profile of the fourth stage leaves little doubt that there will be a bunch sprint. After the only mountain classification of the day at the start, the route offers the sprinters and their teams ideal conditions to position themselves for the finale. The long, straight road sections allow the sprinters' trains to ride at a high pace and control any breakaway attempts. The circuit in Lecce could provide additional excitement, as it gives the teams the opportunity to take a look at the decisive final kilometres in advance. For the general classification riders, the most important thing on this stage is to stay safely in the peloton and avoid crashes. The flat route offers them the opportunity to save energy for the more demanding stages ahead. Nevertheless, they must be attentive in the final kilometres to avoid losing valuable seconds due to possible time gaps at the finish.
