Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) won the bunch sprint in temperatures of up to 40 degrees after 202.5 kilometres from Rodez to Carcassonne ahead of Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) and Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo).
Earlier, a breakaway attempt by German champion Nils Politt (Bora-Hansgrohe) and the Dane Mikkel Honoré (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) after 145 kilometres. For the seventh time in a row, the mountain jersey went to Berlin-born Simon Geschke (Cofidis).
In the overall standings, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) is still 2:22 minutes ahead of defending champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates). However, things went anything but smoothly for the Dane.
The overall leader was involved in a crash, but was able to catch up with the field again. But the race was over for two of his most important helpersPrimoz Roglic from Slovenia, who was originally scheduled to be captain, did not take part in the race due to the injuries he suffered in the first week. During the race, former Dutch Tour bronze medallist Steven Kruijswijk was forced to abandon the race.
The Tour takes its final rest day on Monday before heading into the Pyrenees on Tuesday. The 178.5 kilometres from Carcassonne to Foix are scheduled for Tuesday.
