Spring classics with the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and Co, Tour of the Basque Country, Tour of the Alps: the professional cycling calendar had a lot to offer in April. TOUR takes a look back at the cycling month of April with 23 photo highlights.

In our picture gallery from April, Lotte Kopecky cheers three times, cobblestones are hugged and kisses are shared. But first and foremost, of course, there is cycling, and alongside the winners there is also a Winner of the hearts.

Kopecki's first strike in Flanders

Lotte Kopecky won the Tour of Flanders right at the beginning of the month, but that was just the first coup.

For the men Pogacar triumphedalso provided a Mass crash causes excitement. Filip Maciejuk (Bahrain-Victorious) cleared almost the entire field a good 142 kilometres before the finish. He was later disqualified.

Basque Country Tour

In addition to the spring classics, the Basque Country Tour characterised the month of April in the cycling calendar. From 3 to 8 April, six stages with a varied route had to be completed. The overall winner was Jonas Vingegaardthe Tour de France winner of 2022.

A lot of love for the paving stone

Alison Jackson won the third edition of Paris-Roubaix Femmes. At the finish there was, in true Jackson style, a dance interlude. Later, on the podium of the winners, there was a hug for the cobblestone.

Degenkolb in top form

Things were looking good for the German John Degenkolb. He didn't let up and followed all of Van der Poel's attacks. But then things got tight on the last difficult pavé section. There was a crash. Van der Poel then won Paris-Roubaix and Degenkolb can be proud of his excellent seventh place despite the crash. Chapeau to this performance!

Fleche Wallone

Ardennes triumph number two for Pogacar at the Fleche Wallone. Demi Vollering from Team SD Worx won the women's race, Olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer got caught up with two team-mates and finished four minutes and 34 seconds later in 71st place. The German Liane Lippert secured the second place on the podium.

Tour of the Alps

In the second half of April, the next professional cycling tour took place. Lennard Kämna secured sixth place and is thus well prepared for the Giro D'Italia, which starts 2.5 weeks later. Five challenging stages took them through Austria and northern Italy.

Vollering secures Ardennes triple, unlucky crash for Pogacar

Demi Vollering came out on top in the sprint against Elisa Longo Borghini to complete her Ardennes triple. The Dutchwoman had already won the Amstel Gold Race on 16 April, and three days later she also crossed the finish line first at the Flèche Wallone.

In the men's competition, Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) won the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallone. A crash catapulted him out of the race prematurely at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. How the clash of the giants turned out and Evenepoel (Soudal - Quick Step) clearly dominated the race.
