Liane Lippert from Friedrichshafen achieved her next top result at the women's Fleche Wallonne, which is part of the UCI Women's World Tour. The 25-year-old from Team Movistar was only beaten by Dutch rider Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx).
After 127 kilometres, the decision was made on the extremely steep Mur de Huy. The eventual winner Vollering increased the pace right at the start of the climb. Initially, Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM Racing) was able to follow her. However, the Polish rider soon had to let go and dropped to eleventh place.
Meanwhile, Liane Lippert managed to close the gap to Vollering once again, but had to let go in the last 200 metres, but saved herself in second place ahead of the Italian Gaia Realini (Trek-Segafredo) at the finish of the Fleche Wallonne. This is Vollering's fourth win of the season. The 26-year-old had previously won the Amstel Gold Race and, before that, the Tour of Flanders and the Strade Bianche.
