The American company The Sufferfest is committed to offering customised road bike training. The company, which is part of Wahoo, has been operating under a new name since 2021. Wahoo SYSTM offers personalised training plans, strength training and more. Our test shows what their 4D performance diagnostics are good for and what the app has to offer.

Pain, suffering, stamina - the training platform The Sufferfest played with the extremes of cycling based on Udo Bölt's now legendary exclamation "Qäul dich, du Sau!". Under the new name Wahoo SYSTM, the app also offers structured training sessions without virtual animation as with Zwift, Bkool or RGT usual - RGT has been part of Wahoo since 2022. Instead, TV images from professional broadcasts are edited together to match the training build-up and accompanied by motivating music. This is a welcome change for professional cycling fans and encourages them to complete all intervals at full intensity. For those who want to train in virtual landscapes, the Wahoo X subscription includes a Wahoo RGT-access.

One advantage of Wahoo SYSTM is the wide range of options: In addition to bike training, the app also offers yoga exercises, core workouts and mental training - almost the complete package for endurance athletes. The 4D test implemented by The Sufferfest sets it apart from the conventional performance diagnostics of other apps, which calculate all load zones based on the FTP value.

With its four-dimensional power profile (4DP), the provider promises to be able to create a training plan to suit individual strengths and weaknesses. The basis for the assessment of sprint and endurance abilities is a 65-minute initial test. Here, the performance in maximum sprint, for 1, 5 and 20 minutes is determined - all in one session! Immediately after the test, you receive an evaluation with a rider profile and a comparison of your greatest strengths and weaknesses, including suitable training sessions.

Individual strengths and weaknesses are incorporated into the workouts. Those with a comparatively strong 5-minute power will be given harder VO2max intervals, while those who excel at sprinting will have to push more watts during short sprint intervals. However, the selected training plan as a whole is not re-adjusted to the determined rider profile; only the intensity of individual units changes.
