The Tour of the Algarve for professional cyclists will take place from 15 to 19 February 2023. Here you can find the most important information about the stages, the start list and the TV broadcast of the 49th Volta ao Algarve.

The Tour of the Algarve is an annual tour for professional road cyclists in Portugal. The event was held for the first time in 1960 and has since developed into one of the most important professional cycling races in Portugal. The Volta ao Algarve consists of five stages, with the final stage in 2023 being an individual time trial. The other stages lead over flat roads, hills and mountain passes. Highlights of the race are traditionally the mountain finishes at Alto do Malhao and Alto da Foia.

Tour of the Algarve: preparation for the first cycling highlights in 2023

The Tour of the Algarve is part of the UCI ProSeries - a category below the UCI World Tour - and attracts some of the best teams from around the world. In recent years, it has developed into a major race and is often used as preparation for the spring classics or the first major tours such as Paris-Nice or Tirreno-Adriatico.

For Portuguese riders in particular, it is a very important race to gain experience at a high level before the big international competitions. The list of winners includes stars such as Alberto Contador, Geraint Thomas and Remco Evenepoel, who won the Volta ao Algarve 2022.
