The mountain finish on the Alto do Malhao has shaken up the overall standings of the 2023 Tour of the Algarve. Thomas Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) also secured the yellow jersey with his stage win.
After 177.9 kilometres, the 23-year-old won ahead of the Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) and Ilan van Wilder (Soudal - Quick Step) and thus also took over 1st place in the overall standings from Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education EasyPost). The two-time stage winner of the Tour of the Algarve was unable to keep up with the best on the final climb.
The Tour of the Algarve ends on Sunday with stage 5: an individual time trial over 24.4 kilometres around Lagoa.
