The route of the Vuelta 2025 in detail

The course of the Vuelta a Espana 2025 is once again a very mountainous one. There will be ten mountain finishes. These include the mythical arrival on the Angliru on stage 13 and a grand finale on the penultimate day on the Bola del Mundo, which at 2258 metres is also the highest point of the Tour of Spain.

The first week

For her 90th birthday, the Vuelta a Espana will be held for the first time in Italy, with three stages in Piedmont. The prelude was already unveiled at the beginning of December. From there, after a short detour to France, the route leads back to northern Spain - the south of the Iberian peninsula is skipped completely. This is followed by a team time trial, two mountain finishes, a flat stage and another mountain finish until the first rest day.

The second week

After this, the race continues with another mountain finish in Larra Belagua. On Wednesday, the programme includes an undulating section around Bilbao, on Thursday a stage with a difficult finale, which is predestined for a breakaway group, before the Angliru awaits on Friday of the second week. With a total of 202 kilometres, this is also the longest stage of the Vuelta a Espana 2025. The next day, there is the next big one with the Alto de la Frappona mountain finish. The second week will be rounded off with a transition stage to Monforte de Lemos.

The third week

The final week of the Tour of Spain 2025 begins with a mini mountain top finish in the 2nd category, before the stage ends on Wednesday on the Alto de el Morredero (1st category) and the only individual time trial of the Vuelta is scheduled for Thursday: 27 flat kilometres around Valladolid. The 19th stage is probably the last opportunity for the sprinters before Madrid. On the penultimate day, there will be one last chance to shake up the overall classification on the ascent to the Bola del Mundo before the Vuelta a Espana 2025 comes to an end with a mass start stage in Madrid after travelling through four countries (Italy, France, Andorra, Spain).
