You could easily afford a small car for that money. New, of course. For the bike of two-time Tour winner Tadej Pogacar, you would have to pay over 15,000 euros, depending on the configuration.
In return, you get a high-tech machine which, in the mountain version, is very close to the official weight limit of at least 6.8 kilograms. An overview of the 23-year-old's racing machine.
Pogacar celebrated his first two Tour victories on a Colnago V3RS. This year's frame looks identical, but should already have a Prototype be. To save weight, Pogacar had the paintwork removed. Only the sponsor stickers remain on the carbon fibre. All screws are said to be made of titanium (4 euros each). It is not the lightest frame in the peloton, but it can be used in the mountains as well as on the flat. Price for the V3RS frame: approx. 4650 euros.
The gears and brakes are from the Italian manufacturer Campagnolo. The Super Record EPS works electronically and offers 22 gears. On flat terrain, Pogacar uses disc brakes; in the mountains, the Slovenian relies on classic rim brakes due to their lower weight. Price of the groupset without cranks: approx. 3000 euros.
Few people know Schoberer Rad Meßtechnik, but every cycling fan knows the abbreviation SRM. The company from Jülich claims to offer the "gold standard in power measurement". The power meter is built into the crank and Pogacar receives the data via the bike computer. Price for power meter and computer: approx. 3000 euros.
Here too, Pogacar is equipped by Campagnolo, the Bora WTO is available with different rim heights. Pogacar usually rides 45 mm high rims. In the mountains, he is to receive a prototype wheelset this year that weighs just under 1200 grams. There, Pogacar relies on classic tubular tyres, while on the cobblestone stage, for example, he rides tubeless. Price for wheelset and tyres: up to approx. 3000 euros depending on the configuration.
Look is one of the most successful pedal equipment manufacturers. Even as a teenager, Pogacar favoured the French company's pedals. On the Tour, he rides the Keo Blade Carbon Ceramic model, a pedal weighing less than 100 grams. Price: approx. 270 euros.
The Prologo Scratch M5 Nack provides the necessary comfort. The saddle is divided into five different zones, which are padded to varying degrees of hardness. The Darimo T1 Aero seatpost is a prototype and is also said to weigh only around 100 grams. Price for saddle and seat post: approx. 630 euros.
Pogacar steers his bike with the Deda Alanera. The cockpit is made of carbon fibre and the stem and handlebars form a single unit. All cables are routed internally to optimise aerodynamics. Price for the cockpit: approx. 900 euros.
