In cycling, no success is more highly valued than overall victory in the Tour de France. In the past two years, Tadej Pogačar has made his mark in the history books - in the new season, he will probably start as the favourite again, equipped with the Colnago V3Rs. And it was precisely this bike that we subjected to the usual TOUR tests.

The value of such success is also hard to quantify for the supplier - winning the biggest cycling race in the world is the best form of advertising. Colnago's top model, the V3Rs, is a good example of the fact that you don't have to ride the fastest equipment to win the Tour.

Watts and features of the Colnago V3Rs professional bike

Although the frame of the team bike we tested is Competitive light. Aerodynamically, however, the model has a disadvantage: 229 watts pedalling power at 45 km/hmeasured in the wind tunnel according to TOUR standards, are only average compared to other all-round bikes in the professional peloton. Specialized and Pinarello in particular build faster - and lighter - bikes that require up to 20 watts less pedalling power. Powerful sprinters like team newcomer Pascal Ackermann can look forward to high stiffness values. The Colnago is built with the finest parts from the Italian Component brand Campagnolo, SRM power meter and tubeless tyres - on our laboratory scales, this adds up to 7.1 kilos without pedals and other accessories. The winning bike from 2021, equipped with tubular tyres, is probably a little lighter. (see picture) because the system saves around 200 grams on the wheels. However, with the recently announced switch to Pirelli as tyre sponsor, it is highly likely that Team UAE will rely on tubeless tyres in the future.
