By winning the fourth stage, Tadej Pogacar has taken over the overall leader's yellow jersey in the Paris-Nice long-distance race and demonstrated his outstanding form.

The 24-year-old Slovenian professional cyclist from UAE Team Emirates After 164.7 kilometres from Saint-Amand-Montrond to the mountain top finish at La Loge des Gardes, he was able to take a commanding lead over Frenchman David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) to prevail.

Pogacar distances Vingegaard

The Swiss Gino Mäder (Bahrain-Victorious) finished third, 34 seconds behind the two-time Tour de France winner Pogacar. The reigning Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), the Pogacar the day before at the team time trial who had overtaken him in the overall standings, crossed the finish line 43 seconds after his opponent at an altitude of 1077 metres. The best German was two-time overall winner Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) finished in 22nd place, 82 seconds behind.

"It wasn't really my goal today to take the yellow jersey. But of course you don't say no to that," said Pogacar after his fifth win of the season. The UAE Team Emirates pro had won the first four in mid-February at the Tour of Andalusiawhich he won in the end, and the Clasica Jaen Paraiso Interior can retract.

More than 200 kilometres on the 5th stage

The fifth stage of the eight-day race leads over 212.4 kilometres from Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise to Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux on Thursday. The long-distance race traditionally ends on Sunday in Nice on the Cote d'Azur.
