Road cyclists can use our Strava Challenge to simulate this year's queen stage of the TOUR Transalp (18-24 June) with 123 kilometres and 3244 metres of altitude in their home cycling area - whether in the Black Forest, the Taunus or the Deister. This way, everyone can prepare perfectly for the upcoming TOUR Transalp or simply compete with others.
The route of the TOUR Transalp 2023 is full of variety and surprising changes of scenery on a route through mountain landscapes that leave completely different images in the memory. This year, the seven stages from Lienz to Arco cover a total of 827.3 kilometres and 18,233 metres in altitude.
That's a real house number! If you want to find out whether you are up to it, you can put yourself to the test in the Strava Challenge. Here you have to ride the distance of the queen's stage in your home cycling area on your own: the 123 kilometres or the 3244 metres of altitude. Particularly motivated cyclists can, of course, tackle both.
The queen's stage (stage 3) from Primiero/San Martino di Castrozza to Pederobba is a tough one. Not only does it demand a lot from your muscles, it also offers pure scenic variety and impressive changes of scenery. From the mountain village at the foot of the 3,000 metre-plus skyscrapers of the Pale di San Martino, the route takes just a few hours to reach the place where the grapes for Prosecco grow.
These are two worlds, visually, culturally and climatically. Now, not everyone has such fantastic panoramas and challenging passes like the Passo Gobbera, the Passo Brocon or the Monte Grappa on their doorstep - with a little creativity and stamina, the metres in altitude can also be tackled in the flatlands. For example, you would have to climb Hasselbrack (116.5 metres in altitude), Hamburg's highest hill, around 28 times to reach the altitude metres of the royal stage, and Höckeberg in Schleswig-Holstein (82 metres in altitude) almost 40 times.
The requirements for taking part in our Strava Challenge: The respective distance or altitude metres must be completed on a road bike or gravel bike in one unit and may not be split. Participation via Zwift is not possible. The challenge must be completed by Tuesday, 21 February. Then upload a screenshot and link of your Strava unit to our Strava Club (TOUR Transalp on Strava). More than 2,300 members from different countries are already active there. An extra incentive for the challenge: there is a prize draw for all participants. TOUR Transalp partner Specialized is donating cycling clothing for the cold season.
