The Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour is a race on the UCI Women's Pro Series calendar. Every year, the women's stage race visits various locations in Thuringia. Mühlhausen, Gera and Altenburg are already known as stage locations. Erfurt has now been announced as the start and finish of the third stage of this year's women's tour. The tour last visited the state capital in 2016.
Vera Hohlfeld, director of the tour, announces her delight with the following words:
We are delighted that we have succeeded in integrating the state capital back into our stage programme. Erfurt is the heart of the Free State of Thuringia - and now the heart of the LOTTO Thuringia Ladies Tour beats here again. - Vera Hohlfeld
Erfurt's Lord Mayor Andreas Bausewein sees Erfurt as a city of sport, as demonstrated not only by the number of Olympic and world champions. He is convinced that the state capital will present itself in the best possible light at this top-class sporting event. The Lord Mayor also commented on cycling and the Erfurt public: "Cycling has been at home in Erfurt for decades and the knowledgeable and fair Erfurt public will welcome the participants of the LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour and accompany them along the route."
As with the previously presented stages, the details of the route are currently being finalised, all in close coordination with the authorities. Marian Koppe, the route planner, has already decided that the stage will be rather flat, so sprinters should be able to show off their skills here. However, when the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour last visited Erfurt in 2016, a breakaway group broke away after 103 kilometres. The Russian Olga Zabelinskaya was part of it and won the stage in the end.
