The town of Altenburg in the Altenburger Land district will host the 2024 Tour of Thuringia. Altenburg last hosted the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in 2022. And the individual time trial is also to take place in this very town.
The Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour is the only German women's tour. It will once again be part of the UCI Pro Series in 2024. This means that the tour is sure to attract world-class riders to Thuringia again next year. This year, five World Tour teams were at the start and Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx) took the overall victory.
The details of the route of the individual time trial around the Residenzschloss are being finalised, according to a press release from the organisers. "Our aim is to create a route profile on the stage around Altenburg similar to that of the individual time trial at the Olympic Games in Paris", explains race director Marian Koppe. This makes the stage ideal for the professional teams to test themselves under similar conditions four weeks before Paris 2024 and to prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games.
We've never had an individual time trial in the "playing card city" four weeks before the Olympics. - Race Director Marian Koppe
The individual time trial on the penultimate stage of the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour could reshuffle the cards of the classification once again. So there is plenty of excitement to look forward to in the skat town of Altenburg. Vera Hohlfeld, director of the tour, also believes this.
There have already been seven enquiries from the Women's World Tour for the 36th tour through Thuringia. In addition to the enthusiasm of the organisers and the WWT teams, the mayor of Altenburg, André Neumann, is also looking forward to the tour. The population will have the chance to experience a high-calibre cycling race. He is also convinced that the major event will bring positive publicity to the region and will shine in the media far beyond the region.
The talks with the stage towns are in the bag and the entire route for the 2024 Tour of Thuringia can be published soon.
