Craft Core Warm Baselayer Set

Admittedly, long pants are probably less suitable for long rides, as you don't usually wear pants under cycling shorts to avoid creasing, chafing and skin irritation. On the other hand, long underwear is perfect for the commute to work or other shorter journeys, such as to the Christmas market. The set from Craft is available at Bergfreunde in the men's section and for women.

Spoilt for choice: winter shoes or overshoes

Opinions differ on whether to wear overshoes or a winter shoe. Proper winter shoes often keep you warmer than overshoes and the cold bridge between pedal and cleat is insulated so that less cold can creep into the shoe. If you only rarely get on your bike in sub-zero temperatures, overshoes are the right choice and you won't have to dig too deep into your pockets. If you want to brave all weathers and temperatures, it's better to go for winter shoes. The investment is worth it.

The IQ-XM Speed from Busch und Müller seems bright and sufficiently long. Its operation with the wired high beam switch is excellent, but its mounting with the somewhat clunky bracket could be better. If you ride aero handlebars, you should definitely look out for suitable brackets before buying. Its battery performance is good, over two hours of floodlighting is a good value and the good reserve light means you won't be left in the dark for hours.

For just over 80 euros, the Trelock LS 760 IGo Vision available from Amazon, for example. TOUR tested it itself by comparing four low-cost and two high-end headlamps. Our conclusion:

The best display paired with a simple operating concept: light intensity, charge level with remaining time display in hours and minutes plus time; the somewhat clunky holder only offers a small swivelling range.
