The very fine and tightly knitted sock from Endura is made from a mix of five different yarns, including silk and one based on Primaloft Gold, a wadding-like material. This makes the sock very comfortable to wear, with a slight feeling of compression, although the shaft can pinch a little on thick calves. The sock insulates well without being bulky in the shoe; the fibre mix is easy to care for and requires no special treatment.
The deep winter knit made from a lot of merino wool feels nice and warm in the hand, but needs a lot of space in the shoe; if it's too tight, it no longer insulates well. The material is not particularly elasticated, but fits well on normal feet and ankles. One argument in favour of merino is that it doesn't smell much, but you have to wash the natural fibre more carefully and the sweat transport is not as good as with textiles made from synthetic fibres.
The brand is currently best known among runners and hikers. The highlight of the Coolmesh II Crew is the two layers of fabric, which are designed to prevent blisters on the feet. Cyclists tend to have fewer problems with this; the pleasantly light and very robust sock insulates very well (application range between 5 and 15 degrees). A version with a short shaft is available for milder temperatures.
The knitted oversock weighs just 61 grams (size L); the flexible and relatively thin shell is made from recycled polyethylene. Unfortunately, it soaks up water relatively quickly and is therefore only suitable for dry weather. In our opinion, the cut-out for the pedal plate is placed a little too far forward, and the sock chafes noticeably on the heel without a cut-out when walking.

Expensive, but good: The robust, tight and long-cut sock hugs the shoe, ankle and calf like a second skin. The knitted fabric is very neatly finished, the toes and heels are reinforced and the cut-outs for the pedal plate and heel are perfectly seamed. Raindrops roll off completely.
Only 55 grams (in size L) make this simple model from Maap the lightest overcoat on the line. However, its properties are poor: the material offers hardly any protection against the cold and wet; the elastic synthetic fibre knit is more of a shoe protector. The cut-outs on the cleats and heel are carelessly seamed and quickly pull threads. The reflective logos earn a small plus for passive safety.
Although the sock is waterproof, we would re-waterproof the outside a little so that water droplets bead off the knit better. The 100 gram overshoes are cut wide enough to fit over slightly bulkier (gravel) shoes. The cut-outs for the pedal plate and heel are seamed, but still show a few loose threads.
