The new IQ-XM Speed with high and low beam is the most powerful rechargeable headlight with road approval that Busch & Müller has in its range. The bright light with up to 170 lux and a 4600 milliampere-hour battery costs 300 euros. With these data, the IQ-XM Speed is suitable for use on road and gravel bikes.

We tested the headlight and the battery under realistic conditions. The battery was charged and discharged three times before the two measurement cycles until it had reached its full capacity. We then measured the lighting times at maximum light output, i.e. in the case of the Busch & Müller with the headlights on. We made sure that the headlight was sufficiently cooled so that its electronics did not reduce the output due to heat, which would falsify the measurement result. We measured the battery performance at an outside temperature of around 10 degrees and additional cooling with damp cloths.

Busch & Müller IQ-XM Speed: powerful high beam light

We measured the light output of the IQ-XM on a completely dark cycle road with no lane markings and a typical light area profile with grass and trees at the edges of the road. We marked out our measurement route with cones from the near field up to a distance of 30 metres, with the light edge of the dipped beam touching the upper edge of the last cone. The difference between the two light levels is clearly recognisable, the high beam shines for around 100 metres and illuminates the roadway powerfully, so that fast driving at over 30 km/h is always safely possible. Oncoming drivers praised the low glare effect of the headlights when dimmed. There was some criticism for the visibly weaker illumination of the area in front of the front wheel; some competitor headlights are better at this.

How do you like this article?

That remains as ConclusionThe IQ-XM Speed from Busch und Müller seems bright and sufficiently long. Its operation with the wired high beam switch is excellent, its mounting with the somewhat clunky bracket could be better. If you ride an aerobar, you should definitely look out for suitable brackets before buying. Its battery performance is good, over two hours of floodlight is a good value and the good reserve light means you won't be left in the dark for hours.
