The new Aeroweave upper material is breathable thanks to its mesh-like structure. According to the manufacturer, it is also lighter and softer than the upper material of the previous shoe generation. The designers' aim was to reduce shoe weight and improve ventilation while maintaining support and protection. This is how the second generation of Aeroweave was created. In the Aeroweave material, nylon fibres are interwoven with filaments made of thermoplastic polymers.
The Powerstrap hook and loop fasteners not only sit on top of the foot, but also enclose the foot to give it a secure hold in the shoe. The fact that the hook and loop fasteners also last in the long term was tested by our sister magazine BIKE on the gravel model Fizik Terra Powerstrap X4 found out.
The carbon sole of the Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave has been newly developed. The carbon fibre structure of the sole has been updated and redesigned, resulting in the R3 sole. Here, too, it was possible to save weight while retaining the high stiffness. Fizik specifies the stiffness index as 10. This should enable optimum power transmission. The sole also has two wide ventilation openings and deep internal channels. Both contribute to temperature regulation. Like all current Fizik models, the R3 outsole also offers a deeper positioning of the cleats, which should optimise efficiency and reduce compression of the knee. This is particularly suitable for aggressive, forward-facing aero positions.
