Cheap is good. And there are many discounts in the summer sales. To narrow down the list, we have taken another factor into account in addition to the discount: The 13 products selected are some of the most popular items we've tested in recent years. From helmets and bikepacking bags to cycling shorts, everything is included.
The Eclipse from Giro is the third model in the Spherical series and weighs just 280 grams in size M. We already tested it last year in our Novelty articles 2023 tested. The special feature of this helmet is the two EPS helmet shells, which twist against each other. As a result, the Eclipse offers the same wearing comfort as conventional helmets, as there is no flat plastic Mips shell resting on the head. The only criticism is the small, somewhat stiff adjustment wheel for adjusting the head circumference. The Eclipse is available in four different colours.
The top model from Giro consists of two helmet shells that are elastically connected to each other. In the event of an impact, the inner shell can twist against the outer shell and thus absorb the rotational energy. This significantly improves wearing comfort compared to the conventional use of the Mips plastic shell. In our large Road bike helmet test from 2020 the model achieved top marks in the "Safety" category and also scored highly in the ventilation category.
The Giro Agilis Mips has the Helmet test from 2020 performed well in all categories, but not outstanding. Unfortunately, the integrated Mips does not work quite as well as the more expensive Aether Mips model. All in all, however, a solid road bike helmet.
The Restrap Saddle Bag is part of a bikepacking set from Restrap, which is available in our Bikepacking bag test received an overall score of 1.4. We were particularly impressed by the Restrap Saddle Bag's secure hold, easy handling when loading and unloading and the high-quality features and workmanship. We therefore gave it a rating of 1.3. Initial assembly requires a little effort, but the saddle bag holds reliably even when heavily loaded.
The top tube bag from Restrap is an important component of the bikepacking bag set that we tested. We were particularly impressed by the assembly, hold and workmanship of the Restrap Top Tube Bag. However, there were some problems with the seal, which is why we ultimately gave the bag a rating of 1.8.
The third bikepacking bag that we present in this article is also part of the Restrap set. The frame bag particularly impressed us with its stability, ease of loading and unloading, features and build quality. We have given the frame bag a rating of 1.3.
The Wera box delights screwdrivers across the board: In addition to a perfectly crafted spanner, it contains the most important bits and two extensions. Despite its size, the spanner fits perfectly in the hand and is easy to use, even with small screws. The scale is easy to read and finely adjustable, while the mechanism engages cleanly. The tightening direction and grip point are also displayed. The Wera spanner only triggers in one direction and is supplied with a full test certificate. So it's no wonder that the Wera Bicycle Set Torque 1 was our test winner in this year's torque spanner test with an overall score of 1.0. The 16-piece set is available in stores and is currently discounted.
The shorts skilfully combine comfort and compression. The cuffs with silicone dots are seam-free and the crossed straps at the back keep the padding perfectly in place. However, they can be a little windy when standing. The workmanship is excellent. Although the trousers were our test winner of the Cycling shorts tests 2022 it still has its price despite the discount.
The Gorewear Long Distance was also tested in our 2022 cycling trousers test. Their pleasantly soft material with few seams ensures a high level of comfort. The trouser legs are particularly suitable for strong thighs, while the straps could do with a little more stretch. The padding is hard and thin, which makes it dimensionally stable even under load. The windstopper in the crotch also protects against chilling.
This LED rear light for road bikes from our test last year impressed us above all with its extremely long burn time of up to 26.20 hours. However, it takes around five hours to fully charge the battery. The buttons are easy to operate and easy to feel. One drawback, however, is that water can penetrate via the large sealing surfaces.
The Continental Grand Prix 5000 impressed in the Road bike tyre test with a stable and confidence-inspiring riding impression. One of the reasons for this was the smooth and controllable tilting at maximum lean angles. In the test, the tyre achieved top values in all disciplines. However, a more stable sidewall would be an advantage.
The Pirelli P7 Sport left a good impression of comfort. When cornering, it always remained stable and predictable. During the test, however, we had the feeling that the tyre had a slightly nervous turn-in behaviour. Overall, the Pirelli is a solid, inexpensive training tyre that doesn't lose grip even in the wet. It is relatively light, but not too fast.
The Scott Speedster Gravel 40 EQ offers honest and robust technology for sporty riding on gravel and tarmac. It is perfect for commuting kilometres in all weathers, rather than just setting best times in good weather. The gravel bike does not have fixed lights and reflectors, but with the fixed mudguards it can be used as a sports bike all year round. Another plus point in this price range is the stylish cable integration. With an RRP of 1599 euros, the Scott Speedster Gravel 40 EQ offers a harmonious overall package at a fair price.
