Scott Ransom 400

The 2024 "Ransom 400" model from Scott is a versatile and robust mountain bike designed specifically for young riders. Priced at 1999 EUR, it offers an impressive range of features that impress both in terms of technical specifications and build quality.

The Ransom 400’s frame is made from a custom-made aluminium alloy (Alloy 6061) featuring tapered tubes, a tapered head tube and a BB73 bottom bracket shell. The internal cable routing ensures a clean look and protects the cables from external influences. The frame is designed for a maximum load of 80 kg, whilst the bike itself weighs in at 13 kg.

Braking performance is provided by Shimano BR-MT500 brakes at the front and rear, operated by Shimano BL-MT501 brake levers. The front brake disc has a diameter of 180 mm, whilst the rear brake disc measures 160 mm – both from the Shimano Deore SM-RT56 series.

The Ransom 400 is fitted with an 11-speed drivetrain from Shimano. The Deore RD-M5100 rear derailleur and the Deore SL-M5100-R shifter guarantee precise and reliable gear changes. The fork is an X-Fusion Slant RC with 140 mm of travel, specially tuned for children. The rear shock, an X-Fusion 02Pro R Trunnion, offers 130 mm of travel and features a rebound adjuster.

The drivetrain components include a Prowheel BB73 bottom bracket, a Prowheel CHARM-32T crankset and a Shimano CS-M5100-11 cassette with a 11-51-tooth range. The chain is a KMC X11, which is renowned for its durability.

The handlebars are aluminium (6061) Syncros T-bars, which are flat-shaped and feature a 9° angle. They are 600 mm wide and are fitted with Syncros Youth 115 grips. The stem is also made of aluminium and has a 7° angle.

The wheelsets consist of Syncros DP30 rims with a width of 30 mm and are fitted with black stainless steel spokes (15G / 1.8 mm). The tyres are Kenda Hellkat K1201 in size 24x2.4, which are renowned for their excellent traction. The hubs are from Formula, with the front hub being a DC-71 IS model (15x100 mm) and the rear hub a DC-3248 IS Boost model (12x148 mm).

The saddle is a Syncros Future Pro, mounted on a Syncros Dropper Ducan Remote seatpost. This seatpost has a diameter of 31.6 mm and a travel of 80 mm, specifically tailored to the needs of young riders.
