Trek Domane 2.3 2013
Almost any road bike can be prepared for a multi-day tour. We have chosen the inexpensive Trek Domane as an example because it has several details that make it ideal for occasional trips

The Trek has a robust aluminium frame, classically stored wheels that can be repaired in an emergency, a comfortable, upright riding position and - at least for a road bike - quite decent suspension comfort. In addition, Trek has already integrated eyelets for a fully-fledged pannier rack and permanently mounted mudguards on the rear triangle, which means that the bike could be equipped for far greater tasks without improvised tinkering. If you plan to use it occasionally as a touring bike, you should pay attention to such details when buying a new bike. We have limited ourselves here to a large handlebar bag from Vaude with a map compartment and a seatpost bag from Rixen & Kaul, both of which are easy to mount with the click-fix system and can be clipped on and off in a flash. The seat post carrier hardly affects the riding behaviour and does not bob. It is sufficient for weekend luggage up to a maximum of two kilos and is much quicker to fit than a classic pannier rack. Seatpost carriers are available with a load capacity of up to ten kilos. You should always replace carbon seat posts with an inexpensive aluminium post. In principle, fully-fledged pannier racks can also be mounted on road bike frames that do not have prepared threads, for example with clamp systems such as the Tubus Fly.

Caution is advised with carbon frames, however, as the manufacturer usually does not allow this for good reason. Non-round tube cross-sections can also cause problems.

The grades are calculated up to the final grade with all decimal places; however, for the sake of clarity, all grades are given with rounded decimal places.
