After the Vuelta Femenina and the Women's Tour of the Basque Country, the next race of the Women's World Tour is now coming up on Spanish soil with the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas. Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx - Protime) wants to complete her Spanish hat-trick after her two victories in the aforementioned races.
After initial problems at the start of the season, the winner of the Tour de France Femmes 2023 is now in top form and accordingly the top favourite for the Vuelta a Burgos Femininas. Other co-favourites include Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek), Evita Muzic (FDJ-Suez) and Elise Chabbey (Canyon//SRAM Racing).
The peloton starts with a stage around Burgos. The stage is not super demanding - although there are three 3rd category climbs on the programme. A few roundabouts shortly before the finish are likely to be the biggest challenge for the teams on the way to the possible sprint finale.
Stage 2 is also the only real mountain finish of the tour. After around 120 kilometres, the Alto de Rosales awaits. The final climb is not very steep at 3.8 kilometres and an average gradient of 5.2 per cent, but in the end it is likely to be the contenders who come out on top. The last kilometre is also the steepest with an average gradient of seven per cent. This is where the race is likely to be decided.
Stage three is a classic section for the sprinters. After a fairly straightforward run into the finish, two bends await on the last kilometre, where you should already be in the top ten in order to win at the end.
The last day is also the most challenging of the tour with lots of ups and downs. Although the Alto de Rozavientos is only 3.5 kilometres long, it is very steep with an average gradient of more than nine per cent. After a rapid descent, there is also a short final ramp. This is where the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas 2024 will be decided.
There will be no live coverage of the women's Tour of Burgos on German television. However, Eurosport 1 will broadcast recordings of the respective stage every day from 17:45 following the Giro d'Italia. A live stream of all stages is available on Discovery Plus (for a fee). The streams run from 14:30 to 16:00.
