A complete podium in the colours of one team is not an absolute rarity these days, at least in women's cycling. However, it is usually the all-conquering SD Worx - Protime team that is responsible for this. Not so in China. The German Women's World Team Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling was responsible for this success in the 2nd stage of the Tour of Chongming Island over 129 flat kilometres on the island of the same name off Shanghai. Marta Lach from Poland won the bunch sprint ahead of the previous day's winner Mylène de Zoete from the Netherlands and Austria's Kathrin Schweinberger.
After the last breakaway was caught around four kilometres before the finish, the team of sports director Dirk Baldinger took command. Ceratizit went into the final kilometre with five riders at the front. Three of them ultimately remained in the lead, with Schweinberger having already been in the wind for 300 metres as the lead-out rider for de Zoete. Lach, on the other hand, had found her own line on the way to her eleventh professional victory.
De Zoete has defended her lead in the overall standings with second place, three seconds ahead of Lach. Third is Tereza Neumanova (UAE Team ADQ), but she is already 13 seconds behind. De Zoete also leads the points classification ahead of Lach. There was no change in the mountains classification. Anne Knijnenburg (VolkerWessels Women's Pro Cycling Team) collected the only mountain point awarded early in the day and is now level on points with Karolina Kumiega (UAE Team ADQ) in the battle for the jersey.
