The Slovenian finished in sixth place, seven places behind. It seemed as if the Slovenian had not taken the risk that Godon, among others, had taken, especially in the first, downhill section of the course. This could have been partly due to the fact that although it was basically dry, the first raindrops were visible on the camera lenses when Pogacar was the last starter. Unlike all the other pros, he was not free to choose his starting position and had to start last with the number 1 on his back.
Pogacar proved to be the strongest of the classification riders at the start in Villars-sur-Glâne, although the race was very close. Primoz Roglic in eighth place was one second slower than the 27-year-old. And Florian Lipowitz also remained within striking distance in tenth place, three seconds behind. Other riders in the classification, such as Oscar Onley (INEOS Grenadiers), lost significantly more time. The Briton was 35 seconds behind Godon and thus also lost a lot of time in the battle for the podium of the tour through western Switzerland. Jörgen Nordhagen (Team Visma | Lease a Bike, +20 seconds) and Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal Quick-Step, +23) fared a little better.
Unlike the majority of the field, the day's winner Godon was able to say after his race: "It's not every day that I can beat him. There aren't many chances in a year." He was of course referring to Pogacar. "I rode the corners at full throttle and took some risks. The aim was to win at least one stage here at the Romandie." However, there won't be too many more chances. However, the 29-year-old is also having the season of his life and has already won four WorldTour stages in 2026. He has a total of 20 career victories.

Only 103 riders took part in the prologue. This was primarily due to the fact that four WorldTeams had declared their withdrawal from the race, but the race organisation did not make any additional nominations, meaning that only 15 teams took part.
As rain had been forecast for the race in advance, the teams put their specialists and the classification riders in their early starting positions, which ensured that - apart from Pogacar - the top 10 were already set in stone after 42 starters. Godon started the race in 23rd place and was the only one to set an average time of 53. After the first starter Davide Formolo (Movistar Team), Marius Mayrhofer (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), Luke Plapp (Team Jayco AlUla), Remy Cavagna (Groupama - FDJ United), Roglic and Oliveira also had the best time.
