Sergio Higuita sorgt für den zweiten Etappensieg von Bora-Hansgrohe bei der Baskenland-Rundfahrt 2023
Sergio Higuita has won stage 5 of the 2023 Tour of the Basque Country. The Colombian provided the German team Bora-Hansgrohe with its second win of the day.
Tour of the Basque Country 2023: Higuita wins the sprint
After 164.5 kilometres, Higuita prevailed in the sprint of a small group of favourites in Amorebieta. Second place went to Andrea Bagioli (Soudal - Quick Step) from Italy ahead of the Dane Mattias Skjelmose (Trek-Segafredo). For Bora-Hansgrohe It was the second stage victory after the Dutchman Ide Schelling had won the 2nd stage.
Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) successfully defended his lead in the overall standings once again. The Dane takes the chequered flag with a 13-second lead over Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious) on the final stage around Eibar. Vingegaard's best result so far in the traditional tour was second place in 2021 behind his team-mate Primoz Roglic.
