Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos-Greandiers), stage winner on Eurosport:
"It's unbelievable! I have no words. Being able to start at the Tour has always been a dream of mine. To have won the best race in the world is unimaginable. Today I've achieved one of the biggest goals I've ever wanted to achieve. I won today. I'm happy and grateful to the team and everyone who believed in me. It wouldn't have been possible without them. After I had to leave the leading group, I no longer really believed I could win. I just kept my own rhythm and rode the descent as fast as possible. Because I'm a good downhill rider, I was willing to take the risk. The aim was also to make up time in the overall classification and we achieved that. We are very happy and enjoy the victory."
Rod Ellingworth (Team Manager Ineos-Grenadiers), on Eurosport:
"Winning today is something very special for someone who is riding his first Tour de France. To win this stage from the group of classement riders is impressive. The manner was simply strong. The plan for Carlos (Rodiguez; editor's note) was to keep the gaps as small as possible when he lost contact with the classification riders. He organised his energy very well today and rode perfectly. Tom (Pidcock; editor's note) didn't fail today. It's more about the learning process for the future. We will discuss the race with him afterwards."
Felix Gall (AG2R-Citroen Team), seventh on Eurosport:
"I suffered so much! Jumbo-Visma set a very fast pace from the start to control the breakaway. I didn't really feel good myself at the start, everything hurt on the penultimate climb. I'm happy with how the day went today, but I was really on the limit. I was happy that I was able to ride the last section with Jai (Hindley; editor's note). On the last climb I was surprised that I was only one of a few riders who could keep up the pace in the lead group. I asked myself what I was doing here at all. It was surprising for me. I hope that I can maintain this form."
Adam Yates (Team UAE Emirates), fourth on Eurosport:
"We knew that Jumbo-Visma would try something today. They set a very fast pace today, the breakaway group had no chance. It was a very exhausting day for everyone. We did a good job. I gave everything for Tadej (Pogacar; editor's note), we did a good job. He's in a good position, just like the whole team. We will build on our performance."
Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), on Eurosport:
"We made it a tough day for ourselves today, but everyone else had a tough day too. We were hoping that Jonas (Vingegaard; editor's note) would be able to pull out a bigger lead today. He and Tadej (Pogacar; editor's note) are simply equally strong at the moment - chapeau! It's great how Jonas is fighting for the overall victory. He helps the whole team with his spirit."
