The Tour de France 2024 began on 29 June in Florence. 176 starters from 22 teams set off and tackled a total of 21 stages. This year's destination was Nice rather than Paris due to the Olympics.
A year earlier, the Tour de France began in Bilbao in the Basque Country and ended with Jonas Vingegaard's victory in Paris. Here we take another look back at the results of the 2023 Tour de France.
The yellow jersey enjoys the highest prestige in the Tour de France. This is the jersey of the overall leader by time. Four riders have won this coveted piece of clothing five times and thus hold the record for the most overall victories in the Tour de France: Jacques Anquetil (1957, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964), Eddy Merckx (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974), Bernard Hinault (1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1985) and Miguel Indurain (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995).
While two of the four serial winners come from France, only one German has ever won the Tour de France in its 100-year history, as a glance at the history shows.
