The Spaniard won after 151.8 kilometres and 4100 metres of altitude in Morzine. Second place went to Tadej Pogacar ahead of Jonas Vingegaard. As a result of crashes, seven riders had to abandon the race.
Defending champion Vingegaard is now ten seconds ahead of Pogacar in the overall standings. The Dane secured more bonus seconds than Pogacar on the Col de Joux Plane, while the Slovenian fought back at the finish. Rodriguez is now third, one second ahead of Bora captain Jai Hindley.
After just over five kilometres, a mass crash occurred on a small descent, the first of this year's Tour. Race director Christian Prudhomme stopped the race, which was resumed after just over half an hour. South African Louis Meintjes and Spaniard Antonio Pedrero abandoned immediately, while Colombian champion Esteban Chaves and Dutchman Ramon Sinkeldam subsequently got off their bikes. Frenchman Romain Bardet and Briton James Shaw had to leave the Tour after another crash. The Portuguese rider Ruben Guerreiro followed later. There were eleven tasks before the start of the stage.
On Sunday, the riders head close to Mont Blanc. After 179 kilometres, the fourth and final mountain finish of the Tour awaits the riders in Saint-Gervais. At seven kilometres, the final climb is not particularly long, but the second part is quite demanding.
