The Colnago V4Rs competition racing bike was developed by the Italian bike manufacturer in collaboration with the Team UAE Emirates developed. It is the successor model of the V3Rson which Pogacar won the Tour de France in 2020 and 2021, among others.
The prototype of the V4R, the Colnago Prototipo, was already in use at the Tour of France 2022, where it piloted Pogacar to 2nd place.
The monocoque frame of the Colnago V4R is said to be the fastest that the Italians have ever developed. A lot of emphasis was placed on the front area during the development of the Colnago racing bike. The shape of the head tube has been revised and a new fork has been designed, which should be better integrated. The bike computer mount on the CC.01 cockpit of the V4R was produced using a 3D printer and is compatible with the Wahoo Bolt V2.
In terms of weight, the Italians looked at the road bike as a whole instead of scrutinising the individual components separately. Compared to the V3Rs frameset with Colnago Sr9 stem and Hbr41 handlebars (plus headset), the V4Rs frameset with CC.01 cockpit and headset is said to be 47 grams lighter. In terms of aerodynamic improvements, the difference to the V3Rs is just as manageable as in terms of weight. Colnago claims that its new competition road bike should save 0.75 watts at a speed of 50 km/h.
The stack/reach ratio should now be almost linear across all frame sizes, making the riding position more customisable. The chainstay is also slightly shorter.
Compared to the V3Rs, the successor model should also be more resistant to impacts and bumps. The Italians attribute this to the improved seat stays, which are designed to increase bending and impact resistance.
Pogacar is happy with his new bike: "The V4Rs is a light and stiff bike and really responsive. It's good for me to attack on the climbs, because when you pedal, the bike moves forwards well. That helps me with fast starts. But it's not just about speed and lightness, it's also about comfort. It's really important that you don't feel completely knackered after six hours on the bike, and our bike is just perfect for that."
The Colnago V4Rs is also ridden by the women's team UAE Team ADQ. "My first impression was that it's great. I'm an all-rounder and this is the perfect bike for me," says Sofia Bertizzolo from Team UAE ADQ about the Colnago V4Rs.
For the equipment with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, power meter, ENVE 3.4 wheels, Colnago CC.01 handlebars, Prologo Scratch M5 saddle and Continental GP5000 tyres, a proud 15,260 euros are called up.
