The organisers of the Spanish Grand Tour have announced the teams that will take part in the 80th edition of the stage race from 23 August to 14 September. A total of 23 teams will take part in the three-week tour. According to the rules of the UCI, all 18 World Tour teams automatically qualify for the Vuelta. In addition to the World Tour teams, the two best Pro teams from the previous season have secured their right to start at the Vuelta: Lotto and Israel - Premier Tech.

Two wildcards awarded to Spanish teams

The organisers of the Vuelta also have, after the UCI adopted a rule changethree wildcards will be awarded to pro teams instead of the previous two. The Spanish team Burgos Burpellet BH will also receive an invitation, as will Caja Rural - Seguros RGA. By awarding the wildcards to predominantly Spanish teams, the organisers want to promote domestic cycling.
