Marlen Reusser (Movistar Team) left nothing to chance on the final day of the Vuelta a Burgos Femnias and celebrated overall victory in the four-day tour through Spain. The Swiss rider took another stage win in the final time trial.

Reusser won the 9.4 kilometre race against the clock in 12:51 minutes, six seconds ahead of Juliette Labous (FDJ - Suez) and eight seconds ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ). The Italian champion thus climbed to second place in the overall classification and ousted Yara Kastelijn (Fenix - Deceuninck), who was 48 seconds behind but was able to defend third place.

"That was a nice time trial course, short and crisp, technical," said a delighted Reusser on the Eurosport microphone. "It was a great comeback for me in the individual time trial." The 33-year-old had not raced alone against the clock since her European Championship title in 2023, and only twice in the team time trial. "We came here to win. But it was not foreseeable that it would be so clear in the end," said Reusser, surprised by her own strength. "I was already very focussed on this task here in Burgos during my preparation and my team did an excellent job."

Reusser takes two stage wins and the overall standings

Next on the programme for Reusser is her home tour. The four-day Tour de Suisse in mid-June will again be very mountainous, but without a time trial. The fact that this need not be a problem for the Movistar frontwoman, who was born near Bern, was demonstrated the day before when she won the queen stage of the Tour of Burgos with a mountain finish as a soloist. She celebrated the 26th to 28th of her career.

The German women were unable to make their mark on the final days of the tour. After Ricarda Bauernfeind had already cancelled the 2nd stage for health reasons, Antonia Niedermaier (both CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) also had to withdraw the following day.

Niedermaier would definitely have been in contention for a top result in the overall standings, at least for the best young rider's jersey. That went to Dutch rider Nienke Vinke (Team Picnic PostNL), who finished 16th overall. Reusser claimed all the other classification jerseys for herself.
