The classics season is in full swing. With the Tour of Flanders 2025, a new challenge awaits after Milan-San Remo the second of a total of five cycling monuments of the year. In addition there are Paris-Roubaix (13.04.), Liège-Bastogne-Liège (27.04.) and the Tour of Lombardy (11.10.). The Ronde van Vlaanderen is the most important cycling race in the Flemish part of Belgium and a huge public festival with thousands of fans along the route and millions in front of the screens. If you can't watch on TV or a live stream at the moment, our Tour of Flanders live ticker will keep you well informed on Sunday. We will cover the start of the men's race and the hot phase when the battle for victory will be fought in the finale.

Ronde van Vlaanderen 2025: cobblestones and slip roads

The cobblestones in Flanders may not be as challenging as those of Paris-Roubaix a week later, but the many short climbs, known as switchbacks, will tire the riders' legs even more. The 2025 Tour of Flanders programme includes a total of 16 of these climbs, supplemented by seven cobbled sections that will give the professional cyclists a good shake.

Mathieu van der Poel meets Tadej Pogačar

To win the Ronde, you need a special type of rider. A strong puncheur who can assert himself in battles for position and show his strengths on the cobbles - and there are plenty of them at the Tour of Flanders. Two pros stand out as top favourites: Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin - Deceuninck) and Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates - XRG). The two exceptional riders had already fought a thrilling battle at Milan-San Remo a fortnight ago, in which van der Poel had the better end. Now the Slovenian is keen for revenge: "Fortunately, the Tour of Flanders is a completely different race to Milan-San Remo," explained the three-time winner of the Tour de France in the run-up to the Ronde. Even before Pogačar landed at Milan-San Remo Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers). The Italian is just as much a favourite for Sunday as Wout van Aert (Team Visma | Lease a Bike). Although van der Poel's permanent rival has not yet shown himself to be at the same level as van der Poel this season, he should not be underestimated at the Ronde van Vlaanderen - just like Mads Pedersen (Lidl - Trek). The Dane is one of the strongest riders at the Spring classics 2025as he recently demonstrated with his impressive solo at Ghent-Wevelgem has proven itself.

They will all be trying to knock last year's winner van der Poel off his throne. The Dutchman, meanwhile, is aiming for his fourth victory at the Ronde van Vlaanderen, which would make him the sole record holder. He currently shares the record with Johan Museeuw, Fabian Cancellara, Tom Boonen, Eric Leman, Fiorenzo Magni and Achiel Buysse, who also have three victories each to their name. Whether van der Poel will take the sole record in 2025 can be read here on Sunday in our Tour of Flanders live ticker.

Steffen Wesemann last German winner of the Tour of Flanders

The German professional cyclists will hardly be able to compete for victory at the Tour of Flanders 2025 on Sunday. So far, two German riders have won the Ronde: Rudi Altig in 1964 and Steffen Wesemann in 2004. To mark the 20th anniversary of his triumph last year, TOUR conducted an in-depth interview with Wesemann, who now has Swiss citizenship.

The Tour of Flanders for women 2025

The women's Tour of Flanders 2025 will also take place on Sunday. The race will finish after the men's event and also promises to be very exciting. The finish is expected between 17:30 and 18:00. The women's race covers 168.8 kilometres. The peloton will face 12 slip roads and seven cobbled sections. Last year's winner Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) is hoping for her third overall triumph at the Ronde van Vlaanderen, which would make the Italian the sole record winner. The same feat could be achieved by Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx - Protime), who has also already triumphed twice. The best chances from a German perspective are Liane Lippert (Movistar Team). The 27-year-old from Friedrichshafen recently underlined her good form with a sixth place at Quer durch Flandern last Wednesday. Cycling fans can find out who comes out on top on TOUR after the race. We will also be reporting on the women's race and summarising the action in a race report.
