For Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), it was his second stage win at the Volta a Catalunya 2023, having already won the fourth section in Sabadell in his favour. The Australian won the 6th stage after 183 kilometres between Martorell and Molins de Rei in the sprint of a thinned-out field ahead of Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) and Ide Schelling (Bora-Hansgrohe) through.
Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) still has the best chance of winning the Tour of Catalonia 2023. The 33-year-old defended the overall leader's jersey on stage 6 on Saturday.
Ahead of the final day, Roglic is still ten seconds ahead of his closest rival, the road cycling world champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal - Quick Step) from Belgium.
Evenepoel and Roglic reached the stage finish in Molins de Rei in 5th and 9th place after 183 kilometres. 27 kilometres before the end of the race, Evenepoel launched an attack on the last climb, but Roglic countered the Belgian's pace and could not be shaken off.
Around eight kilometres before the finish, the favoured duo was caught by the peloton again. Groves prevailed in the final sprint and took the stage win.
The Tour of Catalonia ends on Sunday with the final stage over 136 kilometres in Barcelona.
