"There are still a few nice mountain stages left, I will definitely give it a go. The chance will come," said Kämna on the rest day.
On Friday, the 25-year-old had a great day at Planche des Belles Filles narrowly missed out on his second career Tour de France stage winwhen, 100 metres before the finish, he was caught by the top stars around Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) had still been intercepted. "I thought a few times about what I could have done differently. In the end, it wasn't possible. It's a bit annoying for me, but it can't always work out," added Kämna.
In the future, the North German can imagine aiming for a top place in the overall standings as captain in a tour. "I still have one or two steps to go. I could definitely see myself trying it out in the future. It's about a certain consistency," said Kämna.
Currently, the German Bora-Hansgrohe-Russian Aleksandr Vlasov is the man for the overall classification. However, the captain has already lost a few minutes due to a crash. Accordingly, the team will wait for the next mountain stages in the Alps to see whether a top position with Vlasov is still the goal.
"We'll have to keep an eye on that. After Wednesday, we'll have a clear tendency as to whether it still makes sense to think in terms of the podium or whether the team needs to set itself other goals," said team boss Ralph Denk.
