On 29 October from 11:00 a.m. in the Palais des Congres in Paris, the routes for next year's 112th Tour de France Men and 4th Tour de France Femmes were unveiled.
In Germany, Eurosport 1 will broadcast the presentation from Paris live on free-to-air TV on 29 October. The broadcast starts at 11:00 and is scheduled to run until 13:00. There will also be a live stream of the event on the paid provider Discovery Plus.
The Grand Depart will take place next year in Lille in northern France. After three foreign starts in a row (Copenhagen, Bilbao and Florence), this will be the first time since the start in Brest in 2021 that the race will take place within France. The first three stages were unveiled at the end of 2023. Sections one and three are likely to be safe pickings for the sprinters, while the riders will find some classic terrain on the second day. We have already compiled the elevation profiles and maps for the first three stages. The start location of the fourth stage - Amiens - is also already known. The finish of the most important cycling race in the world will once again traditionally be in Paris in 2025 after the 2024 Olympic detour to Nice next year.
The Tour de France Femmes 2025 starts in Brittany and will be extended from eight to nine stages. Details of the first three stages were published in June 2024. The first stage will lead from Vannes to Plumelec with an arrival on the Cote de Cadoudal, on the second day the peloton will ride from Brest to Quimper. There will be a final lap in the city with a steep finish. For stage three, only the start location is known - La Gacilly. What happens after that has not yet been confirmed. There is speculation that the fourth stage will end in Poitiers and that the race will lead to Clermont-Ferrand the following day. This is reported by francebleu.fr. In addition, the penultimate stage could, according to the newspaper Le Dauphine Libere in Maurienne (exact destination not specified) and the grand finale in Chatel.
In addition to the officially confirmed first three men's stages, there is, as every year, a lot of speculation about the possible course of the Grande Boucle in the run-up to the route presentation. The traditionally very well-informed website Velowire.com envisages the following basic direction for the Tour de France 2025: After the start in Lille, the first week will continue north-westwards - including an arrival at the Mur de Bretagne.
It is not until the middle of the second week that the race will head into the Pyrenees - including a mountain time trial towards Peyragudes and a mountain finish in Hautacam. After that, the Tour of France will turn towards the Alps in week three. On the way there, a detour to the mythical Mont Ventoux which would be back on the programme for the first time since 2021. After that, tough Alpine stages are still to come. According to Velowire The route could take you over the Col de la Loze and on another day towards La Plagne.
The start location for the 2026 Tour de France is already known. It is due to start in Barcelona in around one and a half years, as the organiser ASO already announced in June 2024. It will be the most southerly Grand Depart in the history of the Tour of France.
While there is still no official date for the presentation of the route for the Vuelta a Espana, this is already fixed for the Giro d'Italia: the routes for the men's and women's Tour of Italy will be presented in Rome on Tuesday 12 November. The men will start in Albania and finish in Rome, and there will also be two time trials. This was confirmed by Giro boss Mauro Vegni in a recent interview.
