With three podium places in his Tour debut, Bauhaus was one of the few German bright spots in the last Tour of France. This also helped his status in the team. The rider from Bocholt is now one of the top sprinters and is a safe bet for top places for Bahrain-Victorious. For the Tour de France, the 29-year-old is seeded in the sprints - also because his team is not competing in the Tour with any podium candidates in the overall standings. Accordingly, individual results take centre stage. The 29-year-old left this year's Giro d'Italia after the 13th stage and took two third places in the Tour of Italy. In the spring, he won a stage at Tirreno-Adriatico and a section of the Tour of Slovenia in preparation for the Tour de France.
In addition to Bauhaus, a second German, Arndt, has made it into the Bahrain-Victorious squad. The 32-year-old was already part of Bauhaus' sprint train last year and rode Tirreno-Adriatico, the UAE Tour and the Tour of Slovenia with him this season. Arndt's versatility is particularly impressive: in addition to his experience as a sprint rider, he has established himself as a road captain in the professional circuit and has also won races from breakaway groups - a package that will give him his sixth Tour participation.
After his departure from Bora-Hansgrohe, Politt will start his eighth Tour de France for UAE Team Emirates this year. His job is to keep captain Tadej Pogacar out of the wind and out of danger in confusing and tricky racing situations as a rider who is tall and able to cope with high speeds. Politt is in demand as a bodyguard - a type of rider that was still missing from the Arab team's lavish squad. With outstanding results in the spring classics, including third place in the Tour of Flanders and fourth place in Paris-Roubaix, Politt has also earned his place in the squad in terms of performance.
It is the Tour de France premiere for Denz. At the beginning of the year, the team already hinted that the Tour was on Denz's season plan. The 30-year-old will then take on a role comparable to that of Nils Politt at UAE: protecting captain Primoz Roglic from all the pitfalls on flat stages and keeping him out of the wind - especially as Denz can also survive moderately difficult mountains. It's fitting that he has already ridden Paris-Nice and the Criterium du Dauphine alongside Roglic. Denz has gained experience in Grand Tours with several starts at the Vuelta a Espana and Giro d'Italia - he won two stages at the Giro in 2023. This is also likely to have helped his status in the team enormously.
The Augsburg rider's season to date has not yet delivered any highlights. Despite this, he is set for the Tour de France in his Belgian team - especially thanks to his performances in recent years. As an asset in breakaway groups, Zimmermann has established himself as a key player in the team: Last year, he only just missed out on a stage win at the Tour, finishing second. Intermarche-Wanty also lacks classification riders, which means that qualities such as Zimmermann's take centre stage.
At the start of the season, Ackermann's participation in the Tour seemed a foregone conclusion. After all, he had changed teams in order to finally make his Tour debut. Since then, however, things have not gone according to the sprinter's expectations. In March, he broke his collarbone in the Classic Bruges-De Panne and had to take a longer break. Before and after that, his performances were rather mixed. Nevertheless, Ackermann has made the leap into the Tour team, where he will seek his fortune in the sprints: However, the 30-year-old will start without a big sprint train, which does not make the task of winning a stage at the Tour after the Giro and the Vuelta any easier.
The 38-year-old is on his farewell tour, Geschke will end his career at the end of the season. He was therefore particularly keen to take part in the Giro d'Italia once again this season. Geschke was active in numerous breakaway groups there, wore the mountains jersey at times and finished the tour in 14th place - his best Grand Tour result of his career. His start in Italy will now be followed by participation in the Tour. With his riding style, Geschke is at least an asset to Cofidis' Tour line-up, as the racing team will not be entering the race with high class or sprint ambitions. However, everything will have to fall into place for the veteran to achieve a stage win like he did in Pra-Loup in 2015.
Degenkolb's experience in the peloton is hard to beat. He can be correspondingly valuable as road captain and member of the sprint train of the Dutch team dsm-firmenich PostNL. This year, he is likely to be used primarily as support for Fabio Jakobsen. The question with Jakobsen is whether the Dutchman is competitive enough for the Tour sprints after his retirement from the Giro d'Italia.
