The city of Münster, the four districts of Münsterland and the regional savings banks are extending their commitment to the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro until 2030. The 20th edition on 3 October 2026 will start for the first time in Borken and run over 205 kilometres through the districts of Borken and Coesfeld to Münster. With 65 undulating kilometres, the Baumberge is the most challenging section of the route. A new record number of participants is expected in the hobby races.

The partners of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro are securing the future of the cycling event. The city of Münster, the four Münsterland districts and the region's savings banks are continuing their collaboration until 2030, as announced in a joint press release. The Münsterland savings banks are making the event possible for another four years. Over the past 20 years, the race has developed into one of the biggest cycling events in Germany. In addition to top international professionals in the professional race, thousands of amateur cyclists and numerous children take part. This combination of top-class and popular sport is to be maintained.

20th Münsterland Giro from Borken to Münster

The anniversary edition starts for the first time in the district town of Borken. From there, the 205-kilometre route of the professional race leads through the districts of Borken and Coesfeld to the finish in Münster. After twelve kilometres, the first loop of the day begins near Weseke. Via Südlohn, Stadtlohn, Gescher and Ramsdorf, the pros complete a 37-kilometre loop that is ridden one and a half times.

The most demanding part of the route begins in Coesfeld. The Baumberge mountains challenge the pros in the season finale on 65 undulating kilometres with several short, steep climbs. The laps through Coesfeld, Rorup and Darup characterise the anniversary edition. Rainer Bergmann, overall director of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, emphasises the Baumberge as a decisive factor for an exciting finale.

After the Baumberge, the last 50 kilometres follow. The route leads via Billerbeck and Darfeld to Münster, where the finish lap through the city centre is decisive. The finish in front of the castle is the highlight of the anniversary edition.

Three routes offer different requirements: The Sparkasse Münsterland Ost Cup covers 65 kilometres and is suitable for novice cyclists. The Provinzial Versicherung Cup covers 95 kilometres. The most challenging variant is the LBS Cup over 125 kilometres. Until 31 April, the starting place costs 95 euros - after that, the entry fee will initially increase to 105 euros.
