"It looks very good that I can ride the Deutschland Tour for the national team," said Simon Geschke from Berlin, who has long worn the mountain jersey at the Tour de France (Cofidis). "I'm definitely looking forward to the stage, which starts in my adopted home of Freiburg. That's why it's one of my highlights this year."
Geschke almost became the first German to win the mountain classification at the Tour. It was only on the final stage in the Pyrenees that he lost the red jersey to the overall winner Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma). Because the Dane was wearing the yellow jersey, Geschke was allowed to wear it until Paris.
The Deutschland Tour takes place from 24 to 28 August. The third stage starts in Freiburg.
