The differences are marginal, but nevertheless decisive: Paris-Roubaix 2024 is 259.7 kilometres long. 55.7 of these will be ridden on cobblestones. That's only three kilometres more than last year. However, this means that more pavé kilometres will have to be completed than in the last 30 years.

Paris-Roubaix 2024: The most important facts in brief
Date: 6 April (women), 7 April (men)
Distance: 260 km (men), of which 55 km pavé, 148.5 km (women), of which 29 km pavé
Key points: Trouee d'Arenberg (men only), Carrefour de l'Arbre, Mons-en-Pevele
Ahead of the third Monument of the year, organiser A.S.O. has announced the details of the route. Not much has changed compared to last year, and the overall length of the route has only been extended by a good three kilometres. As in the past, there will again be 29 pavé sectors, although they will not be the same as last year.
Paris-Roubaix 2024 more difficult than in previous years
Everything remains the same until the first section after just under 100 kilometres in Troisville. The next two sectors are also the same as last year. After that, however, the peloton will not pass through Saint-Python, where sector 26 was located in 2023. Instead, three kilometres of cobbles between Viesly and Briastre will be tackled, which are not only longer but also more difficult. The section was last on the programme in 2019. A year earlier, Belgian pro Michael Goolaerts crashed there and died after suffering a cardiac arrest. The sector bears his name.
Then it's back to last year's route, but only briefly. Sector 25 leads again from Vertain to Saint-Martin-sur-Ecaillon, but then the course does not lead over the pavé from Verchain-Maugre to Querenaing, but as sector 24 slightly uphill over the Le Hameau du Buat section between Capelle and Rusenes, and then back onto the 2023 route.
"The impact on the race scenario will not be immediate, but long and difficult sections at the beginning will make the race tiring, and the consequences may be felt later," said race director Thierry Gouvenou about the two changes for the "Queen of the Classics", which will be held on 7 April.
