The first UCI Gravel World Championships took place in Veneto. Pauline Ferrand-Prevot won the title in the women's elite class. The Frenchwoman came out on top ahead of Sina Frei from Switzerland. She was travelling on a BMC Kaius, which we take a closer look at in our picture gallery.

TOUR has already tried out the Kaius

The Kaius has recently been added to BMC's portfolio. TOUR has already had the opportunity to test ride the race gravel bike. In principle, single and dual drive systems can be fitted to the Kaius. Ferrand-Prevot rode to the world championship title in Italy with a single drivetrain with the SRAM Red AXS.

The frame of their racing machine is called the BMC Kaius 01, the wheels are from the French brand Duke Racing, the saddle from Prologo. The Kaius allows tyres up to 44 millimetres wide, whereas Ferrand-Prevot was content with 35 millimetres. If you want to buy the top model of the BMC Kaius, you'll have to dig deep into your pockets. The Kaius 01 ONE with SRAM Red XPLR eTAP AXS groupset costs 11499 euros.

At the Gravel World Championships, there were many riders who did not compete on gravel bikes, but on modified racing bikes. The winner of the men's race did just that. Gianni Vermeersch rode a Canyon Ultimate CFR, which is a road bike but has been slightly modified for the Gravel World Championships.

Ferrand-Prevot completed a historic quadruple with her victory in Italy. It was her fourth world title in 2022, having already won the Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets in short track, cross country and marathon won. She now has a total of ten world championship titles.

Ferrand-Prevot makes a decision for the future

The Frenchwoman is already looking to the future. Her big goal is the mountain bike competitions at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In order to be as successful as possible there, she has joined the team Ineos Grenadiers connectedwhere she will be part of the off-road team from 2023.

It is still unclear what equipment she will be using with her new employer. In the mountain bike sector, Ferrand-Prevot recently started with a BMC Fourstroke. The supplier of Ineos Grenadiers is Pinarello. However, the Italian bike manufacturer does not currently produce mountain bikes.
