In our series, an expert on the scene gives tips on road bike tours, meeting points, clubs and cafés. Surrounding Berlin is the wonderful region of Brandenburg, a very diverse landscape with lots of nature and quiet roads.

Berlin-Guide Georg Inderst
The accountant, who works in a medium-sized company and has lived in Berlin for eleven years, describes himself in his blog "The Velobeard!" as follows: "Velobeard rides racing bikes, including on gravel paths, steel, carbon, aluminium, mountain bikes - in other words, almost anything that has two wheels and no motor and is somewhere between a cyclocross race and just before the ultra-long distance." He bought his first racing bike second-hand in 2010. In 2016, he was accepted into the Eisenschweinkader Berlin cycling club. Georg also cycles a lot with his partner.

My racing bike city Berlin:

Racing cyclist meeting
I live in the south-east of Berlin - with the Spree floodplains, lots of lakes and an incredible amount of forest right outside the city gates. We usually meet at the corner of Chris-Gueffroy-Allee on the Mauerradweg. I used to travel a lot in the north/north-east of the city. A popular meeting point there is a petrol station in Dietzgenstraße. Just take the B 96 out of town, you can hardly miss it. Regular after-work rides start at both meeting points during the week. Cyclists ride in a sporty manner and still look out for each other.
Berlin's cyclists' meeting point par excellence is the Kronprinzessinenweg at Grunewald S-Bahn station. If you don't know anyone to cycle with, just go there at the weekend and find a group. It feels like they set off there every minute in all ability classes. They head south/south-west or along the Havel. If you don't want to go far out, the loop around the Grunewald forest with the Havelchaussee is perfect. Tip: You can also find fellow cyclists on one of the racing bike lists in Berlin, for example at www.rennradtraining.de

My favourite bike shops
Cikago Bude owner Bob loves old and new steel frames and finds a solution for every problem with a calmness of mind. You can drop by with any bike. With a bit of luck, you'll also find the right spare parts for steel classics and the right jersey for the L'Eroica.
For fans of Italian frames, Radsport Heinze and Radkreuz are the right addresses. You won't find steel, aluminium and carbon from one of the cycling nations in such a concentrated form anywhere else in Berlin. Standert is stylish to the core - the young Berliners who run the shop can not only race fast, but also construct beautiful aluminium and steel frames; they also make delicious coffee.

My favourite cafés
Recently, the Rapha Clubhouse, but also centrally located bike shops such as Biehler or Standert have quite good espresso machines. I don't often go into the city centre after my tours. I prefer to sit in a beer garden on the Spree, on the balcony or in a friend's garden.

Event tips
The biggest and best-known event was the Velothon, which was unfortunately cancelled this year. Due to the fixed-gear scene and the ever-increasing variety of bikes, many small, non-commercial events have sprung up. People meet up, do sport and have a beer. Community usually comes before sporting ambition. Info: https://p.facebook.com/ hog squad

My favourite round
To the Niederfinow boat lift (142 km, 800 m elevation gain)
I don't have a single favourite tour, but I really enjoy cycling to the Niederfinow boat lift. A tour that is probably just as diverse as Berlin. Lots of forest, lots of fields, sometimes undulating, sometimes flat. And despite the flat terrain, there are a few nice metres in altitude in the Oderbruch. It's best to meet up in the north-east of Berlin and take the narrow, quiet roads via Altlandsberg towards Oderbruch.
