E-road bikes sometimes have a difficult time. As the typical speeds on the road are usually above 25 km/h and therefore above the maximum permitted speed, motorised racing bikes are still a niche product despite the e-boom. BH Bikes shows courage with the new iAerolight and gives its aerodynamic competition racer a mid-motor.
The second generation of the BH 2EXMAG delivers 250 watts with a maximum torque of 65 Newton metres. With the battery integrated into the down tube, the Basque bike manufacturer promises a maximum range of 130 kilometres. With an additional battery, which is inserted into the bottle cage on the seat tube, up to 180 kilometres should be possible. The four support levels can be selected via an integrated button on the stem. The riding modes can be customised via an app.
By way of comparison, the HPR50 engine from the Bavarian manufacturer TQ, which is used in the Pinarello Nytro E The Mahle X-20, which Rose has installed, delivers a maximum torque of 50 Newton metres and can travel up to 100 kilometres. The Mahle X-20, which Rose Reveal Plus provides support over the same distance with a maximum of 55 Newton metres.
The frameset is based on the geometry of the Basque company's eponymous aero racer. According to the manufacturer, you sit very race-like in the saddle, with the ratio of stack (actual frame height) and reach (actual frame length) reaching an extreme 1.34 in the medium frame size. The carbon frame is said to weigh 1400 grams, with complete bikes weighing almost twelve kilograms and more. After the Core Race and Core Gravel, the iAerolight is the third motorised road bike platform in BH's portfolio.
The new model will be available in three equipment variants. The models can be electronically shifted with Dura-Ace, Ultegra or 105. The top model is the only version with carbon wheels from BH's own production and an additional battery, but is very expensive at 10999 euros. BH does not offer an affordable version; the two variants with a simple aluminium wheelset cost 7699 and 8999 euros respectively.
