The spectacular double-decker cockpit - and above all the resulting viral hype on the internet - made the Canyon Grail CF instantly famous two years ago. Now the internet brand from Koblenz is following up with the Grail:ON CF e-gravel bike, a motorised version of the Grail CF.

This bike is causing a stir: Already at the Presentation of the non-motorised Grail In 2018, Canyon shocked traditional road bike fans with the unconventional double handlebar. In the meantime, the gravel bike has found many friends, and the Koblenz-based company is already coming around the corner with the next surprise: a motorised gravel bike with double handlebars!

The carbon frame of the Grail:ON CF is clearly modelled on its non-motorised sister model. The striking cockpit, which has been the subject of controversy among road cyclists, has also been adopted. Canyon cites two key arguments in favour of its design. Because the handlebars are not clamped in the centre by a stem as is usually the case, the top bar can flex across the entire width and thus improve comfort. In addition, the stem is shorter than with a normal design, which results in lower steering forces and therefore more agile handling.

More relaxed seating position in the E version

Opposite the Grail CF, which is very sporty for a gravel bikethe rider sits comparatively relaxed on the Grail:ON CF. This is complemented by the fact that the chassis is designed for a very smooth ride. The wheelbase is 15 millimetres longer than the Grail CF, and the electric version also offers more tyre clearance. As standard, the Grail:ON CF rolls on 50 millimetre wide tubeless tyres from Schwalbe, which promise even lower air pressure and therefore more grip, better traction and greater suspension comfort than the 40 millimetre tyres on the Grail CF.

The motor for the Grail:ON CF comes from Bosch. The fourth-generation Performance Line CX drive offers Four support levels (Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo), boosts pedalling power by up to 340 percent and pushes powerfully with a maximum torque of a mighty 85 Nm. Even the steepest climbs are usually manageable. The motor provides assistance up to a speed of 25 km/h. Legally, the Grail:ON CF is therefore considered a Pedelec and can be ridden without a driving licence or insurance plate. In terms of range, Canyon states that at an average speed of 20 km/h and a total weight of 95 kg, the battery lasts for approx. 110 kilometres should hold.

Canyon Grail:ON CF - all models

The Grail:ON CF is available in seven frame sizesof which the two smallest sizes, 2XS and XS, roll on smaller 650B wheels. Small frames with 28-inch wheels otherwise have the problem that the necessary foot clearance can only be realised with extremely slack steering angles, which make the steering sluggish. This compromise is avoided with 650B wheels.
