20 teams with a total of 120 professional cyclists make up the field of riders for the Deutschland Tour. 14 teams come from the World Tour, the premier league of international cycling. The teams have gradually announced which riders they will be fielding at the start. Numerous stars have been nominated by the top teams for the Deutschland Tour.
The Deutschland Tour was first held in 1911 and looks back on a long history, which was also characterised by a few breaks. For example, the race was revived in 1999 as a result of the cycling boom in Germany, but was cancelled again in 2008.
It wasn't until ten years later that there was a Tour of Germany again, after the organisation of the race was taken over by Tour de France organiser A.S.O., who extended the race from four to five days in 2022. However, there is currently no Tour of Germany for women.
The Deutschland Tour 2022 will also include an amateur sporting event. The Jedermann Tour will take place as part of the last stage on 28 August around Stuttgart.
There are two routes to choose from: a shorter "Weinbergrunde", over 57 kilometres, or the longer distance over 116 kilometres "Through the Stuttgart Region".
Both races start on the Schlossplatz in Stuttgart. Registration takes place via the Homepage of the organiser.
